Great Britain is Scotland England and Wales, plus the surrounding Islands. Not Ireland (Eire) or Northern Ireland. The "Great " bit is not an arrogance but a relic of the Norman invasion. Grande Bretagne ( Big Brittainy ). Generally....Scots and Welsh like to be called Scots/Welsh. Protestant Northern Irish like to be called British and catholics Irish. English people will not take offence at either English or British.
