It depends on what you mean by the question...

Most babies do *not* go to the toilet. They wear diapers and urinate and have bowel movements in the diaper.

If your baby hasn't peed for 2 days, get her/him to the doctor in a hurry. It is a serious sign, and the baby is in danger of dehydration.

If your baby hasn't had a bowel movement in 2 days, it is possible that this is normal. Many breastfed babies (usually after 6 weeks old, but occasionally earlier) have one bowel movement every few days (up to once every 2 weeks or even longer). As long as once the baby does go, it is huge and soft, it is *not* a problem.

Your child is constipated honey. And I am sure it is painful. You will need to go to the store and buy suppositories. Buy the kind specifically made for babies. It is usually found on the baby isle at any grocery store. You simply place a suppository into bum and hold it in place for 15-30 minutes until stool begins to soften. As it softens your baby will begin to push out poo. If it has been 2 days then you may have to help with the process. It will be hard pebbles at first but the longer you leave the suppository in the more it will soften up the stool. Good luck I have had 2 boys and I had to do this with both of them.

Is your baby breastfed or formula-fed?

Formula is usually the number one cause of conspitation in infants. Like another mom suggested, try lubing up a rectal thermometer. Babies have no sphincter muscle, so it won't hurt him. If he cries, it's because he doesn't like being held down, and that's totally normal.

Do NOT give your baby apple juice or corn syrup. You don't want to give the poor baby diarreah if she's constipated now. Diarreah in babies is pretty dangerous, especially if you're already worried she may be dehydrated. Babies that young don't even need water. Read up on babycenter.com, askdrsears.com, or kellymom.com -- anything but breastmilk or formula is going to do a lot more harm than good on your newborn baby's tummy.

As babies digestive systems grow, mature, and change, their habits will change, too. If she hasn't gone pee in two days, you need to get her to the hospital. But if she's wetting 6-8 diapers a day, is acting responsive and alert when awake, and her soft spot isn't sunken in, chances are good she's not dehydrated.

If she's breastfed, it's probably not a big deal. Some breastfed babies go a week or longer without having a bowel movement because breastmilk is so easy to digest that there isn't much solid waste. If she's fed formula, you might want to talk with your pediatrician about trying a different brand that won't stop her up.

Good luck! If she's still peeing regularly, try not to panic, but give your pediatrician a call tomorrow just to check in and see what they recommend. But if she's NOT peeing regularly, you might want to take her to an emergency room or urgent care center to check for dehydration. Again, good luck!

Its something you should talk to your doctor about although my son had only 1 or 2 bowel movements a week until he started on solid foods. Some breast fed baby's can have a bowel movement every time they feed and formula fed baby's can have one a day. This varies but any longer than a week i would go see your doctor right away. If you notice your baby struggling or in pain while trying to pass a movement or is tender and uncomfortable in the abdominal area go see your doctor.
If your baby isn't going pee then they are severely dehydrated and you should go to the hospital right away. Its very unhealthy for anyone to stop peeing. Good luck and congrats on the new arrival.

It means that the baby is backed up. Many things can cause this don't freak out. It happened to mine a few times. First try lubricating a rectal thermometer and insert it. Sometimes this will break up the obstruction and lubricate the area to make it a little easier it go. If that doesn't work try giving the baby a little bit of apple juice diluted with water (like an ounce or two). Juice that early won't hurt the baby. Apple juice can cause diarrhea. Finally if that doesn't work, try putting a little bit of light Karo syrup in their bottle with their milk make sure you shake it up well. (That was a hint my mother gave me.) If none of those work contact the babies doctor. DO NOT TRY ALL OF THEM IN ONE DAY!!!
If the baby is not peeing that means that the baby is not getting enough to drink, try increasing the amount of feedings or the frequency of feedings.

Good Luck.... Any other questions you can e-mail me at butterfly.0303@yahoo.com : )

EMERGENCY ROOM!!!! A baby that young should wet a diaper atleast every 2 hours, and have a soft bm within 30 minutes to an hour after eating. Your baby could be severely dehidrated, or not getting the nourishment she needs, or like the other answer, have a blockage. Either way I would be at the ER, better safe then sorry!!!!!

If you are talking about not having a wet diaper, then you need to take the baby to the doctor right away. If you are talking about not having a poopy diaper, that is okay. I would be very hesitant giving your baby anything for it, especially not any juice as this will be very harsh on their system. Sometimes all it takes is a warm bath to loosen up the bowels.

I'd let my doc know...but it's common..they are still developing...if no pee...then I'd call right away...but the poop...eh..give a gentle baby massage...clockwise...if you go the other way..you can actually back her up...keep it gentle like your petting a cat...also in the same direction.use 2 finger at a time apply light pressure and vibrate and go around...if you do this "regularly" (teehee,no pun intended) you'll actually be able to detect her stool movement...ps don't do this after she eats...b4 or about after a bath or 1/2 hr after eating..try petting her toes ears feet...get a book you'll be surprised of the benefits!!!

ps never give a baby suppositories
unless the doc tells you otherwise..that could really mess things up for the little tyke...

My baby, who was exclusively breastfed, only had a bm every four days. It is possible that it could be normal for your baby, but if you are worried, take your child to the doctor. I always tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to my precious little one's health.
