Hip hop is never going to stand alone in a dance program the way ballet does. If it is offered, it's going to get rolled under the category of jazz, so you need to find a program with a strong jazz component and then investigate further to see whether they have any hip hop classes.

Meanwhile, you're never going to be able to avoid taking English as a dance major in college. You can avoid math and science in some programs, but all of them will have a minimum amount of liberal arts requirements. These include writing classes, humanities or western civilization, dance history, and dance anatomy or kinesiology.

I know of two college dance programs that have strong jazz components while requiring the minimum amount of academics. They are the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and Point Park University in Pittsburgh.

Another possibility is Marymount Manhattan College in NYC. Their jazz component isn't as strong as the above two schools, but since they are right in Manhattan, many dance majors supplement their training by taking classes at Steps or Broadawy Dance Center.

As far as I know, the other schools with strong jazz offerings require more academics:
Oklahoma City University
Southern Methodist University
University of Arizona
University of Nevada, Las Vegas

The "bible" for looking up college dance programs is the "Dance Magazine College Guide."

Hurry up and start researching schools, as auditions start early in the fall. Good luck.

~ When was your prom, and what were the popular traditions at that time? May 26th 2004 and idk what the popular traditions were lol it's 04 not that long ago ~ Where was it held? Villa Ragusa in CA ~ What did everyone wear? Tuxes some guys zoot suits (eww) and Prom dresses ~ Did you have a Pre-Prom dinner and After-Prom celebrations, or was the prom the singular event of the evening? Singular event but they served dinner there. ~ Did your school use the prom as an opportunity to promote and support a cause you believed in? Sadly No ~ Do you remember the theme of your prom? "At last" Colors were red and gold ~ What music was played? Did you have a DJ or a live band? We had a DJ and mostly "hot music of the time" Like BS toxic In the Club etc ~ Was there a Prom Court with a Prom Queen and King crowned at the event? YES I believe these are universal ~ Was the prom in any way shaped by the political and economic climate and world events at that time? Nope And most importantly, what are the fondest memories of your prom, and what advice would you give to us so that when we look back on this night we will remember it as a joyous moment in our lives? Honestly I didn't like it BUT I loved dancing with my now husband hahaha. It's kind of weird to finish college in different cities(we finished school) and now have out prom picture next to our wedding picture lol. We never would have thought then that we were meant to get married. Gosh I really hope no 17 year old reads this and goes "We WILL get married" because back then that was the furthest thing on our mind but it's funny now. Oh and his dance skills improved very very much since then lol EDIT Oops I didn't see the senior citizens part :( I had fun answering anyways lol SORRY

As I don't know what are you are looking it, I am not sure how much help I can give you. I know Cal Arts in CA has an excellent dance program, although I am fairly sure you have to take some general ed. classes as well. A great resource for you would be to either look online or to look in a couple of dance magazines. Dance Spirit periodically puts out an issue with a college directory that lists details such as program emphasis, contact numbers, and types of dance offered. Then you may want to contact the colleges and get more specifics. Good luck!

The University of California, Irvine.

My friend graduated with a degree in Musical Theater from there. She leared all those things, plus acting and singing.

Best of luck!
