if a baseball player hits a homerun but gets hurt while runinng around the bases and cant reach home plate is it a homerun

he has to cross home plate in order for the run to count. I refer you to when the Mets beat the Braves in the NLCS. Bases loaded in the 11th (I think) Robin Ventura hit an apparent grand slam to win the series but was mobbed by his teammates between first and second and never reached home--didn't even make it to second. Therrefore the only run that counted was the runner who scored from third. So the Mets won by one.

Under Rule 5.10 (c)(1) of the Major League Rules -

"If an accident to a runner is such as to prevent him from proceeding to a base to which he is entitled, as on a home run hit out of the playing field, or an award of one or more bases, a substitute runner shall be permitted to complete the play."

After he touches first then it can be a hr. Babe Ruth near the end of his career would hit a hr then stop at first and let the runner finish his trout around the bases.

A substitute runner will be allowed to finish running the bases for the runner who could not continue.

Pinch runner.. .all the batter has to do is make it to first and then some one else can come in and run it for him.
