The War of 1812 (in Britain, the American War of 1812 to 1815), was fought between the United States and the British Empire from 1812 to 1815, on land in North America and at sea. The war ended as a stalemate, with no territory changing hands. The United States, which declared war and attacked British colonies and shipping first, ended the war without gaining any territory; however, the British ceased the sovereignty violations, to which the United States had objected, two days prior to the war.

The Battle of New Orleans was fought after the treaty was signed (though they hadn't heard yet).
Canada and the US decided not to have a militarized border (one with a standing army gaurding the border) That's supposed to be one of the longest still standing treaties in the world.

The US decided to expand to the West, as the North (present day Canada) did not want to be American.
It is interesting to note that many American consider this a victory even though it was a stalemate.

not much,as their attempt to take over canada failed badly because the anglo/canadians were the better side ,and even went as far as washington,in retaliation,it was not a war of independence as the americans were the agressors and wanted canada under their control for greed purposes only, but they failed badly.
