I'm thinking about replacing my outdated oven and dishwasher. My fridge is a newer white, side-by-side. Should I get white dishwasher and oven to match the fridge (for "staging") or stainless steel ones to cater to the contemporary trend? (I'm willing to throw in the fridge if the buyer wants it)

Wow! I'm awed by the instant response! Thanks! Keep in mind that I want to impress the potential home buyer when she/he walks into the kitchen. Trendy stainless steel DW and oven, although it would clash with my fridge, or play it safe and go all white? Or, as some of you have suggested, stainless steel and black?

I'd mix it with a black & white stove & black or white dishwasher. I have a white fridge, black & white stove & black dishwasher. I wanted the stainless steel but didn't want the cleaning hassle with it. Stainless steel has to be wiped off every day or the fingerprints show badly. There was one in Sears when I was looking at the stoves & dishwashers. The sales lady was wiping it off & I questioned her about it. She said she had a stainless steel fridge & is replacing it soon due to the maintenance. Some stainless steel appliances have a coating to keep prints off. The coating wears off from what I've heard.

You cannot second guess your buyer. I prefer white. I would be turned off a house with all stainless appliances. White is cleaner and brighter. Instead of trying to guess what your buyer will prefer, which is impossible, match the appliances to the rest of the kitchen. Which looks best with the counter top and walls? Also note that many people who thought stainless looked great in the stores regretted getting stainless. Everything looks its best in the store, spanking new and shiny. Also remember that stainless steel is just grey with a sheen. I hate grey. I would prefer black to stainless but, my first choice by far is white - clean and bright and it makes the room look larger.

I love the stainless and black. Just have to be careful not to dent it 'cause magnets won't stick to cover it. Seriously, to clean it I use a very little dab of cooking oil, not the chemical stainless wipe that's offered. Remember we are in the room where our hands are touching food

I've just read somewhere that stainless is absolutely the way to go . . . especially for resale. Makes people feel like it's a commercial quality appliance.

Sorry, but if I saw the stainless steel, I'd be thinkin: Hmmmm, more work keeping them clean. They look great, but it's White for me.

go with the white....... although the stainless is trendy.... white endures and anyone who has tried to keep finger prints off stainless would shy away from this finish..........
