The law is one thing but the ethics is another...are you sure you want to damage the relationship, by trying to claim your mothers belongings?
Sounds like you need to seek therapy, she must have really hurt you so much in the past for you to ask this question... I say go for some theraputic method of help, instead of trying to seek the law, and posess what you may easily gain on your own, in time.
Are you even concerned about her in the least?, if not, then you have big anger problems, which you have a right to feel but....deal with your own life. Co-dependancy truly sucks, maybe check out a Co-Da group in your area.

It depends on the state you live in and its laws. it also depends on what you mean by belongings and where they are. For example, if your mother left furniture and plates and household goods in your home for which you either are the renter or owner, then the law of abandoned property might apply. But if she left bank accounts, real estate, etc. then you have to go through a process of declaring her missing and after a set number of years (depending on your jurisdiction) legally dead, then you can claim property that was in your mother's name.
Here is the U.S. treasury site on the Abandoned Property Law, it has a good FAQ section, good luck.

Have you reported her missing to the authorities?

The disposition of her belongings depends on what they are. If you are talking real estate, no it is not yours, not without legal entanglements.

If you mean dishes and stuff, why don't you use them if you want to and when she returns, give her things back to her.

How do you know she left? You should contact the authorities.

If your talking about things of value then I would wait for her to come back. If you mean things like bedding, rugs, and dishes then use them until she gets back.

If it has been only 2 weeks how come your not worried about her? Do you know what happened to her? If you don't know what happened to her call and report a missing person.

Are there other people who might know where she is?
