do you think that "Mainstreem" rock is dumbing down?

look i love rock music. but what i mean about mainstreem is the really popular bands that get played on mtv. there is better stuff out there than that. you know america is one of the only countries that has kinda lost touch with real music. my opinion of course

Well... seeing as most mainstream rock is driven by marketing groups and record sales... and made for what is the most acceptable and least challenging... it's not surprising really. I think most countried have followed suit and make trashy pointless pop music, but while there are still people out there who want real music, there will still be a market.
(most record sales stats are from kids 13 to 17. high disposable income from mum and dad (and probably still living at home), very open to suggestion & peer pressure to keep up with the latest trends and few other financial commitments like food and rent)

Absolutely. Mainstream rock is dumbing down, both on composition and the very scale of musicianship. Sure, play the music you need and use that outlet to get it out, but be intelligent about it. I think, perhaps, the problem lies in MTV's (and even MTV2 most of the time) lack of devotion to good music. They don't budge because they don't have to, and the same bands they choose still drag-in the ratings they need, so why go after quality bands?? Money. I think we just have to ask ourselves which country we're in to figure out that answer.
