If you want to have it sure. But don't act like one of those spoiled kids on TV. I don't even think Sweet 16's are big for girls anymore. I don't know many girls that had big parties, so I think it's a dying sort of thing. Anyway, do what you want.

Generally, guys prefer to have "studley 16," or "Driver's licence" parties.

Dad may be a little miffed if he doesn't already know. If you have some sisters that think it's cute, you could have them "force" it upon you, as a surprise joke. They'll have a lot of great ideas anyway.

You might also try having it at someone else's place, or rent a mansion, since you've got the money. Should dad learn the details of it all though... well, I'm sure there's a reason you don't want him to find out.

A diversionary tactic might help. Have a friend with a similar birth day hold another party, and make that a sort of joint birthday party between the two of you, without being too gay. Then if dad finds out, tell him it was the other person's sweet 16 party. A little misinformation goes a long way, and sadly, it will probably be quite some time still before the whole world is ready to accept gayness of any kind.

Yes..defiantly have it! People at school probably won't care if they already know that you are gay. But if you are going to have it on MTV and stuff like that, please dont be snotty about it like the people usually are. But yeah you should defiantly have it. If you dad still doesnt know that you are gay, having a sweet 16 probably isnt going to show him that you are (just try talking to him about it..be straight forward). You are right though, you only turn 16 once, and if you want to have a big party, then go right ahead, who cares what other people think!

good luck!

oh ya it should be fine if you have a sweet 16
and if your dad says anything
just let him deal with it
but if you dont want him to notice
just be like "hey dad all the kids at school are having them...can i please have a sweet 16???"
no its not a stupid idea
and im pretty sure it wont scar you for life.
if you have the money
people will come
and they will be "your friends"
even if you dont want them to be.
darling i bet it will be amazing!
where do you live?
i'll come too :D

btw brokeback mountain is a great movie!
i honestly dont know why people make such a big deal about it
i watched it with my boyfriend
and even he said that it was a good movie.

Have a sweet 16 party. Since you're a guy, try using a play on words for "sweet". Instead of sweet, as in nice girly things, make sure others know you mean sweet as in the sweet ride your going to be driving after you turn 16..

My son, who is not gay, insisted he got a "Swell 16" party. We had a huge cake, announced him, had a special spotlight dance with his mommy(ME), balloons, and Lord, you should have seen his get-up. He was really into the whole Goth thing.

On the flip side, what a great time to come out. I figure most of your friends probably know. Maybe it is time to tell Dad. He probably already suspects. Yeah, he may go into a extreme denial, but if you know, it is time to get it out in the open for dad.

Wear a spectacular tiara, and satin gloves!

I think it's always a great idea to have a birthday party - especially when you turn 16. You don't have to call it a "Sweet 16" though. Have a great time.
