Yeah! I think, because it's less restrictive when the husband/boyfriend is punching the woman; they can get a smooth and complete swing through. Then again, beating women isn't something I'd promote or support. If i ever see it, I'm gonna be on that dude like a pit-bull on a raw steak! I guarantee you that! Dudes that treat their women like that are punks! To the women who stay in relationships like that - I'd suggest you go to the nearest womens shelter, because real love doesn't try to kill you! -progress

From what I've heard... Its because of a stereotype associated with the type of guys that would beat their wives. For example, guys that live in a trailer park and have lots of tattoos that drink constantly and don't care about appearance and don't keep a respectable job to which they'd need to wear respectable clothes and beat their wives would tend to wear a T-top on a daily basis. U know the stereotype. Its truly a shame cuz i live in texas and it can get ridiculously hot down here and when i go to the lake or do lawn work... If i'm wearing anything at all its going to be a wifebeater : )

Welcome to Hollywood! In most motion pictures that represent a "wife beater" the husband is wearing a white tank top. No longer is it a tank top, it is now a wife beater. The phrase has been around for more than 10 years, I'm surprised you are just asking this now. Where have you been?
