why isnt the term heterosapien used for the human species, or homosexual used to describe the sexual orientation for

Every other instance, such as
homeopathy -- a medical treatment; homogeneous -- like milk when it's treated so the cream and milk stay combined; homograph -- a word that is spelled like another but means something different; homologate -- a verb that means to acknowledge; homologize -- a verb that means to correspond or be alike; homologous -- meaning in the same position; homonym -- a word that sounds like another word that means something different -
There are more, but do I need to continue?
Your original premise is flawed. Homosapiens is not the only use of homo that doesn't mean gay. Homo simply means similar or the same. Homosapiens are a group of intelligent animals similar enough to be classified as a genus. That's genus, meaning common species, not genius, meaning someone who knows the difference between them.

Ooh, you didn't look very far even in the dictionary. 'Homo' can mean 'man' but it can also mean 'same' . Homo sapiens (2 words) refers to man but 'homosexual' (1 word) refers to 'same' so some of the idiosyncrasies of the English language, as derived from other language roots also like Latin and Greek.

Because the word homo means man, so a male who likes men is a homo.

homo is a prefix that means sameness, or oneness.

For example, you can say Japan is an ethnically homogenous society because almost everybody there is Japanese. It doesn't mean that everyone is gay.

homo is not equal to gay, it means the same

homo(same) sexual = same sex = gay

If I remember correctly, there were two Latin words "homo". One meant 'same' (as in "homosexual") and the other meant 'man'. I think one of them had a macron (long-mark) over the first O; but I'm going on memory and it's been a while.

Homo means "only one kind". Hetero means "mix"
It's latin or greek.
There is only one species of human so thus "homo"
Homo sexual refers to wanting only one kind, not mixing.
