Loose your wardrobe.

Loose your attitude.

Prepare yourself for good Mexican food.

Get ready for live music everywhere everynight of the week.

Buy a car.

And MOST importantly - don't compare.

NY is NY and AusTx is AusTx.

There is an "Austin" way of life that is different from the rest of Texas. Generally, more laid-back, certainly more casual, more tolerant, but 100% Texan.

You'll find that the cost of living is lower in Austin than NYC, but you'll be dissappointed with the overall quality of bagels.

The best advice for anyone moving to Texas is to develop an appreciation for barbeque. In Texas, that means brisket.

Buy a car, and a map. Don't ever assume that just because Austin has less than a million that it does not have it's own fun spots. Besides there are always fun things to do for free/cheap in Austin. And yes, go to Kirby Lane, Stubbs, Amy's Ice Cream....

Don't be shocked by the "politeness" of the people of Austin.

Traffic is pretty crowded, but if need to get into another lane, just put on your blinker, and someone will let you into the lane.

You'll find that Austin is a very "laid back" city. It's often referred to as a smaller version of San Francisco.

Check out 6th Street . . . often, esp. during the South By SouthWest (SXSW) Music/Movie Festival.

If you don't have allergies, you will in the springtime. Buy some non-drowsy allergy medication, and you'll be fine.

Oh, and this is probably the most important . . . learn the importance of yelling "HOOK 'EM" on Saturday afternoons in the fall.

HOOK 'EM HORNS!

eat at Kirby Lane. They have the best pancakes in town...and if you don't like pancakes, try anything else and I can bet you that you'll love it! Good luck in Texas!

Get rid of your accent, and slow the hell down. Southerners are very inpatient with Northerners. Better yet, stay put.
