Soccer seems to unite Europe (and other world countries) the way Football unites the states.

America really appreciates the non-official, official language of "English" and American Football between the states is a great way to unite us and for us to call each other names in English ... good old fun with out the bloodshed of war. Additionally, since the USA came from Britain, it is a unique way to tie us to our roots.

Since Europe and nations like Brazil are accustomed to multi languages, it is a great way to have the same rivalry with other nations and keep a childlike competition worldwide (with multiple languages). The USA soccer team is great, but the vast majority of languages is a turnoff for most Americans.

PS: Forza Italy!!!

Not only do the American people have a short attention span, but they also crave something more. Americans need constant stimulation and violence, which would point to why NFL Football is so popular. Soccer has action, but frankly, it is boring. That's coming from an American.

Hi,

In America people seem to like other kinds of Sports. For example a big part like football and wrestling...

I think it is that way because it was and has been that way for many years, and it won't change instantly. People want instantly start liking soccer...

Throughout many years there was never a lot of importance to soccer...

Who ever said it wasn't, Every girl under 12 seems to be playing it at some point or another, same with many preteen boys. Of course our Football is a bit different. Although I think there are plenty enough World Cup fans here.

I think it's because of television. There's not so many time outs in soccer, so you can't put a lot of advertising in it. On the other hand, American football, basketball and baseball are full of time outs, so the TV stations make a killing broadcasting them.

It's just not traditional in the U.S., football takes precedence. But I think soccer is getting more popular every year here.

Because it's a game for little girls. We play real football in America. Soccer players have the pain tolerance of a 9 year old girl...... No I will take that back, the girls are tougher.... LOL

Americans have short attention spans, and can't appreciate the work it takes to score a goal in soccer.

I think majority of Americans find it boring just like many other countries can't stand baseball (glorified version of village game played by little girls & boys in 3rd world)
