She may need to speak to her dentist. It could be something serious like rotting gums or gum decay..whatever it's called. Is she a smoker? Because that could have a lot to do with it.

It's called Halitosis.

Brushing, flossing and mouthwash will only mask the bad breath temporarily. Odor will continue until body eliminates the food. Sometimes people on diets develop bad breath from irregular or infrequent eating.

Since she is brushing her teeth and flosses then it's probably not a problem with food particles collecting on her teeth/between, on gums, etc.

It could be caused by dry mouth (xerostomia), which occurs when the flow of saliva decreases. Saliva is necessary to cleanse the mouth and remove particles that may cause odor. Dry mouth may be caused by various medications, salivary gland problems or continuously breathing through the mouth.

Obviously cigarrettes and other tobacco products have very bad effects on breath.

Bad breath may be the sign of a medical disorder, such as a local infection in the respiratory tract, chronic sinusitis, postnasal drip, chronic bronchitis, diabetes, gastrointestinal disturbance, liver or kidney ailment. If dentist determines that the mouth is healthy, he may refer the person to a family doctor or a specialist to determine the cause of bad breath.

Hope that helps. I had a kid working with me for awhile that had a kicking breath...he'd be chewing gum and you could STILL smell his breath right through it. Had a kidney problem.

So, you never know. Hope this helps.

Got the info off of ADA.org website.

My suggestion is that she talk to a doctor about it (not a dentist). It's possible that her bad breath is caused by indigestion. Sometimes people don't digest their food as well as they should and the food will stay in the stomach for a while...well, it rots there. That has been known to cause bad breath in a lot of people. Also...caffinated beverages like coffee or pop sometimes cause problems for certain people...i know a guy that has wicked breath from caffeine...unfortunately he wont stop ingesting it Well, that's my suggestion..hope it works. :)

She could have halitosis...which is a condition that causes bad breath. Have her go see a doctor (not a dentist) and discuss the problem with them. They will have the best treatment suggestions. Good luck. I know that must be extremely hard on her self-confidence...you're a good friend to help her out:-)

This is a condition that needs to be treated by a dentist or possibly a doctor. Bacteria causes bad breath. She prolly has an infection.

Mint leaves. Chewing mint leaves throughout the day is a great way to freshen your breath. It might not taste as good as bubble gum, but it's better for your teeth!

If she's done all the above stated things properly and it still hasn't worked out, go see a dentist. There might be a bacterial infection or something.

There are some medical conditions that cause bad breath, she ought to check with a doctor. Also eating onions, garlic, other strong spices will come out of your blood stream, in to your lungs and out with your breath. Check her diet.
