Does having bilingual ballots in your state help or hurt the electorate? Are you offended that yahoo has an answers section for the USA in both English and Spanish?

Yes, I think english should be recognized as the official language of the US. I know when I visit other countries I don't expect anyone to speak english and I do my best to phrase questions and responses in the local language--and I'm just talking about vacation. I think that if you're going to immigrate to a country you should make the effort necessary to learn your new country's language, not expect them to adapt to make things easier for you.

I am a Hispanic.....I feel if illegals would learn English and make an attempt to speak the language, they would be MUCH better off.

How can they survive without knowing the language? I am all for speaking two languages. Speaking Spanish with family and friends is fine....But out in the world, speaking English is a must....

It doesn't bother me to see bilingual ballots, but it doesn't help Mexicans learn the language when everything is in Spanish for them, I am also speaking of legal immigrants...

It should be language in which business is conducted by the Government. All citizens must understand English, at least be able to read. I disagree with multi language ballots because it doesn't give an incentive for the non -English speakers to learn the language. I disagree with all Government institutions using any other language other than English.

As far as Yahoo is concerned, they are in the business of making money. They are not asking you to join them. So they can have how many ever sections they want for a country.

No in Switzerland they speak 3 languages. German, french and Italian. Being bilingual helps to create a more intelligent society. American should advocate learning french and Spanish in schools and educate our people into the ways of other cultures. Americans are too closed minded to other ways that are different.

Yes I do. Our hospital here in Texas is in crisis. They can`t even talk to the patients. They have no idea how to treat them. You should learn to speak the language of whatever country you live in.. It is vital to your care and well being. How can you even get this message across , don`t give me penicillin I am allergic and it may kill me if you can`t say it???

It costs more money to make and print everything in TWO languages which Americans have to PAY for. Nothing is free...

It offends me very much.. As for the internet (Yahoo). It is worldwide. It is gonna have different languages. That is fine..

I think English is the official language, but Spanish is necessary as a minorities politic. If a certain population exceeds a certain percent, authorities have to give those people access to public services in their own language. I don't think it's normal, but it's the way to do it, and not only in the US, but all around the world.

I'm pretty sure English is our offical language. I'm not offended but maybe people should learn the language an overwhelming major of people speak in our country.

I support Yahoo!'s right to run their business as they see fit.

I wouldn't do it on principle. We are the only country that is being forced to learn other languages that are LESS useful than the native language. That's bad for the country, and being forced because we have so many illegal immigrants who are not bothering to learn the language (one of the reasons they decided to come into the country illegally, as it is a requirement).
