I think nursing offers more opportunity. I'm a new RN, who will bring home around 50k my first year (without extra shifts) in Texas. My RN friends with experience bring home around 80k yr. The advantage in nursing is you will always have a job, and you can work anywhere. You can probably make 200k if you worked a lot of overtime. Directors and administrators can make over 100k working 8-5 M-F
Sorry, I don't know much about accounting, but you can make money as an RN. However, if you're in it for the money, I would not recommend it because nursing is very stressful! There's too many "bad" nurses who chose nursing for the money and end up hating it and screw over patients in the long run...if they ever made it out of nursing school (HIGH failure rate).
I think the best thing one could do is to follow their heart!
BTW - A nurse will see, smell, and touch things an acct. would never have to.

I can give you facts and figures for an RN. I was today offered a job in a rural area for $16 an hour, plus benifits, and a raise of 5% in a year. I was making just over $30 as a charge/staffing nurse in a big city, with 19 years of experience, just in that field. My friend was offered $22 an hour for staff nurse, same big city. She had experience as a staff nurse, but not in the new field she wanted to try..Another friend told me she made $80,000 last year, staff nurse, with experience, same big city, full time..
Hope this helps. And when you make your comparison, remember, accountants do not get dirty.

Those careers are so different that the amount of money each makes shouldn't matter in the decision about which to choose. You don't become an RN to be rich. You do it because you want to help and comfort people.

They're very different fields, but generally speaking, accountants earn more. Why? Because they can work side jobs, do consulting, and handle multiple clients. RNs work such long hours, which often change, so they don't have nearly as much flexibility to do side jobs.

Which do you despise more? Mind-numbing arrays of #s or touching and dealing with private parts, stool, wetting, decripit people etc.?
I think RNs, but they work more hours if you count the mindless paperwork! ...I really can't say.
An Accountant by fate.

Accountant.
If they do not make more on the front end they have more left at the end of the day.
