You can't even meantion the word 'black' in Croydon. I was pointing out a car (amongst many) to a friend and had to shout 'the black one' to be heard above the traffic. Suddenly there's this two minute silence - even the birds - ( yes we do have them - but not for long as they get eaten) and a million eyes were on me... 'the car - the black car' I said and a million eyes looked to where I was pointing, but lo! the car had long gone. It was not the most comfortable moment of my life.
It's paranoia coupled with political correctness gone wrong. There's a cartoon commercial in which a white mother affectionately refers to her children as 'little monkeys'...can you imagine if they'd tried to do it any other way.
People should get a grip.
Back in the eighties there used to be a comedy called 'love thy neighbour' in which one white family and one black family basically took the rise out of each other 'sambo' and 'honky' etc. and it was great. We should all laugh together and relax more.

That is a good question. The world has gone PC mad, to take away the golliwog was like losing the union jack wasn't it?
I am afraid you are just going to have to ask for black hun...it is still a colour even if the coloured people take offence to it, you can't not use it!
Or how about asking for the opposite of honky white? Its never a two way street is it?

the tabloids have gone crazy about this - you can sing baa baa black sheep, but many nurseries also have verses for baa baa red, yellow, green, white etc etc sheep to help children recognise colours and develop their creativity - most don't just sing black sheep alone, and it has nothing to do with being pc but instead to do with child development - don't believe all the scaremongery you read in the tabloids

A good memory, and a good question. its Political correctness gone mad.I know I'm getting old, I used to collect the "gollies" on the side to send away for METAL "golly badge" could make sets of them and trade them at school. We never thought of them/it as offensive to anyone, it never entered our minds, or the minds of our Ethnic schoolpals

"Little Black Sambo" is another children's story from another time that has been withdrawn. It wasn't racist. It was about a little boy being chased by a tiger and how the tiger chased him around and around a tree till he (the tiger) turned into butter. How can that be Politically Incorrect?

Back in the 60's they had a saying we've all forgotten - "Black is beautiful". Maybe we should all develop a sense of humour.
