It's not a good idea. Unless you only have a betta, those fish need the air pump on all the time.
If it is too loud, wrap it in towels and put it on a folded up towel. That's what I did, it worked for me.
If a betta is the only fish in the tank, go ahead and turn it off.

It depends on what type of filter you have. If you have a hang on the back filter that waterfalls back into the aquarium, then you don't even need air bubbles. As long as the surface of the water is being disturbed then proper gas exchange is happening and there is plenty of oxygen in the tank. air pumps create bubbles that disturb the surface when they reach it, they don't actually release oxygen into the water as they are floating to the surface.
Another way to disturb the water surface if you don't have a HOB filter, is to get a power head and put it near the top so it creates surface disturbance.

It's okay to turn off the pump.... but the fishes will have to flaot to the surface to get the oxgyen if it's not enough. Worse case, your water will get cloudy.
Therefore, advise... unless you cannot affort to pay the bills or the pump is too loud, leave it ON.

1st answer:
You can but you'd be putting your fish at risk.

2nd answer:
No, when you're asleep, you're asleep. You won't be able to do anything because you're asleep.

3rd answer:
Yes, you could turn your fish pump off when you sleep, if you hooked it up to a timer.

4th answer:
Your fish don't have an air pump. Fish don't own things.

I hope one of those answers will work for you.

It really depends on how many fish you have, how big is the living space for the fish or the container, if you have plants in the container, and what type of fish you have.
