Religion is deeply rooted in most people, so each person wants to feel 'correct'. As Faith is beyond reason, (not opposed to it) it is hard to defend your position. As a lived experience, it makes a person vulnerable, particularly if someone tries to cram their 'religion' down your throat. Christians are particularly prone to 'arguments' because of such a long history or factions and divisions. Certainly it does not make sense to Third World countries. I'll be if you asked 'what is a Christian?' you would also have a huge variety of answers. So maybe how you bring up the word makes a difference? History has shameful Christians as well as outstanding ones. Even in our times, how many 'Christian' leaders have proven to be false? An attitude that people are idiots doesn't usually help dialogue or communication. Have a real question and share from there, not as if you have all the answers.

A blind child walks into a room. Some people he knows tell him that there is a beautiful painting that is painted directly on the wall. Not being able to see, the child believes them and will argue his point until he is blue in the face.

Is the painting really there? That's up to you to decide.

Moral of the story:
Many people that claim to be Christians are simply living the faith of someone else. Also, Christianity is so popular and commercialized, it is uncommonly understood in it's depth and entirety. Faith is replaced with pop-christianity-commercialism and cliches.

I'm an ex-Catholic(as a-matter-of-fact I almost joined the Missionaries of Charity at one point). I've read the Bible, the Imitation of Christ, the Apocrypha, . . . . I've read and studied the religious texts of several other religions as well. Now, I'm an Atheist. I KNOW what I'm talking about and I KNOW what Christianity is all about. I KNOW what Christians are talking about and feel it is they who are being gullible and idiotic. So, TRY ME!!!!

It's not just the word "Christian" that brings out the idiot, the word "Quasimodo" may do so as well. If you think a Christian is an Idiot, then you may as well think Quasimodo was one as well. Or not.
