First of all, I would start taking an over the counter stool softener such as docusate sodium 100mg twice daily or Metamucil. Most of the time hemorrhoids are brought on by straining and constipation. You can also buy what is called a "sitz bath" at your local drug store. A sitz bath is a basin that fits on your commode filled with warm water and you sit on it for 15-20 minutes 3 or 4 times daily. You can also add Witchazel to the water which is a mild astringent and is used for hemorrhoids. Also you can buy preparation H cream or suppositories or Tucks pads. Make sure if constipation is the reason for your hemorrhoids that you treat the cause by taking a stool softener as mentioned above. Hope you feel better. from, Jill,R.N.

Preparation H and the various clones actually do help. I also use various Cortisone products, and Aloe. For some reason, just sticking to only one kind of treatment seems to lose effectiveness, but cycling through different ones seems to work better. But this is only my own experience.
