Thanks to all you fellow artists who answered. Best wishes in your endeavors.

Well, I would have to say I favor the pen and paper. I use all the types that I can get my hands on and revel in finding new paper textures to draw on. However, I still love to paint using acrylics, oils and watercolors. I also use pastels and pencils of all types. Most of my drawings are what I would call Fantasy Landscapes. But I also like to do abstracts and occcasionally realism or some variation of that.

Wow! Mandala? I've heard the word, but I'm not familiar with that. Now I've gotta check that out.

Hey "still learning at 53". It sounds like you have a lot of fun in what you're doing. Keep at it, it's great fun, relaxing, inspiring and good for the soul. I feel the most complete when I'm creating art.

Hey "Ms. Shyann"
LOL. I'm the same way. Most of the time I just like to create whatever it is that is in my mind. The best part is watching it go from my mind to the paper, canvas or whatever. Watching it develop and enjoying that it's me doing this. And then when it's finished just standing back and enjoying the feeling of just having created something that didn't exist just minutes, hours or days ago.

Hi! Yes I do love being an artist, it seems to make me feel more whole when I am creating. I am into all media actually. I sometimes mix them on the same canvas or paper, but I tend to lean toward ink or pencils usually. When doing watercolors, I actually use acrylics as the color stays truer and is easier for me to work with. I thin them out with water to do this. I do more realistic paintings and drawings, and no matter what I try, my abstracts turn into more realism than not. I have no idea why I have that quirk. When working with clay however, I can turn out some wild abstract forms. I also sculpt animals such as frogs, cows, fish, shells, whatever. It is so cool to take a hunk of clay and work until it becomes something so unique and awesome that it makes you feel fantastic when you look at it. I have sold only a few pieces, but then again I keep giving them to friends and relatives who ask for them. Soon I will really try to sell something, but I feel like a piece of me goes into each work and somehow I am kind of connected to it, so it is difficult to part with things and see them go to strangers... (we artists are a bit odd, or so I am told!)
So... what is your favorite media? Materials?

A painter must paint, a singer must sing. You have no choice it
seems. I HAVE to do SOMETHING creative....whatever it is. I
feel free to express my feelings through art. My mom used to
say," I know your creative, but do you have to take it out on your
HAIR "?? So, I've mellowed out on that. But creating something
from my minds eye is the most exciting part of art. I don't have
the patients to sit and look at something and draw it. I prefer to
create original work that nobody has ever seen, more abstract.

I'm a mandala artist. Currently I am using acrylics on canvas with dimensional paints, gold leaf, and swarovski crystals to embellish. I love mandalas. For me, mandalas are the visual entrance into the mystery of creation.

I used to sketch all the time, but that was a while ago. My favorites were chalk pastels. Oh, and ceramics. Good times.

How about you?
