A flight is the cheapest. It's $99 Roundtrip on USAir from Philadelphia to Boston and the flight takes an hour and a half. A roundtrip Amtrak ticket is $182 and the trip takes 6 hours. I guess you could drive....but the traffic is murder and in the end, you'd wish you had spent the $99 flying.

Compare airfares with Amtrak. There are some cheap air fares these day, but you'd have to get in and out of airports. Amtrak may be more convenient but takes a lot longer.

Southwest is cheap out of Providence if that airport is convenient to you; same for Manchester.

Hitch Hike!

Well, you asked didn't you?

It all depends. You could ride with someone else and split the gas or you could take a bus. Those are the two cheapest methods that I know of.

The Chinese bus. My daughter used to take them all the time. They're quite nice. They go from Chinatown to Chinatown. Go from Boston to NYC and NYC to Philadelphia.

It's pretty cheap to fly on AirTran, especially if you're willing to travel on a Tuesday or Wednesday (only $39 one way)...
