Actually i do in fact realize how fortunate i am. Of all time periods so far known (from present to known recorded history), the present offers health benefits, opportunities for the american dream and so on.
Furthermore, not only has everyone reading this won the sperm race and endured pregnancy, infancy, and childhood to present, but it could have taken shape in the form of a rat, or a cockroach or an endangered species (not to say that humans are not).
Furthermore, only about four in one hundred people are born into the United States; it is a symbol of freedom, democracy, and a global dream destination. I am American and that is perhaps one of the luckiest things.
Also, I have friends, family, a girlfriend, no diseases, a full head of hair, a fully functional brain and body, a roof, plenty of food, clean water, breathable air, up until now-free education (college), all the clothes i need, a future, and a digital camera.
Beleive it or not, I have many times reflected on the fact that i am truly lucky to be here and that a comet has not smashed into my body. It is a good question though. I think that if people do realize how lucky they are, perhaps we may not be so quick to be jealous or constantly ask for more.

Well to clear one problem up, only about 10% of the sperm we produce are meant to get into the egg. Most of the sperm is there to keep the slower, sicker, less important sperm from reaching the egg, a process which increases the likelihood of a healthy child. But anyway. I do appreciate how lucky I am. I'm lucky to be from a great family, I'm lucky to live in Canada, I'm lucky to live in Vancouver (even if it is a little too crowded) I'm lucky to be achieving a higher education, I just wish I didn't have to pay for it! But oh well, that's what student loans are for. I'm also lucky I can get student loans!! I'm lucky to be healthy, to be able bodied, to have good eye sight. I'm lucky I live in this time, and not a few hundred years from now. I personally think that we may have reached our peak as humans, it's all down hill from here. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm not, we'll see. I'm lucky I can express how lucky I am and I'm lucky someone like you also appreciates how lucky they are.

Yes. I am grateful that my mom chose life, that I was born into a wonderful loving family, and I was the sperm that made the zygote. And to top it off, my mom had several miscarriages before me. Imagine the children that sacrificed their life for me. However, while I was born into the right family, I feel like I was born in the wrong century for various reasons. But if I was born into a better time period, I'd probably take it for granted. Besides, every generation has it's good points and drawbacks. BTW I love your show. What's it like being the only grammy award-winning astronaut?

Nice points to think about Brucebirdfield...you spent a lot of time on that. And well appreciated. Though luck has nothing to do with it. "Fortunate" is the word you need. As yes, I am fortunate that I have come as far as I have. Unfortunately I have Crohn's Disease which caused me to have Blood Transfusions in the past. But thank God with new medicine and nollage of herbs and healthier ways, I have can have an Infusion every few weeks and be o.k. and not have to worry about contracting AIDS. That's always been a scary thing. It's very good to be alive...and I have thanks God many time for allowing me to be here.
Have a great day and hey......!
"Good fortune to yah!

Just imagine if the world now we live also is a similar situation.
One or few from the world again reaches another world to be called lucky. Then will you be one that got flushed into the toilet.
Think about the wisdom used in our creation by our creator.

Yes I do! It amazes me all the changes that have taken place just in the last 10 years let alone in my life time and I'm only 39! I remember the first calculator my Dad bought it was huge, hardly anyone had them. Even when I was in college a little one wasn't cheap. Now you can get one for a dollar!

I'm grateful for this question/statement that is the opposite of most of the doom and gloom on this site.
The very fact that I am here is such a gift. I give thanks for it every day. There are so many wonderful things to give gratitude for that I won't begin to name them. I challenge myself every day to find thankfulness in the smallest and in the oddest things, including things that don't seem so great at the moment.
If we look around us, instead of at the TV, we will see that things really are pretty good, including people.
