Don't you think that most of the information we get is disseminated to serve whomever is supposedly giving out the information? Think about it. It owuld not be in the best interest of the govt. to admit prior knowledge to hurrican Rita

Governments do not lie, people in government lie. There is no way in the time it takes a hurricane to make landfall for the government to coordinate and lie to citizens. Governments act/react very slowly by nature. Oh and the government, while active in meteorology, does not own the weather channel or the equipment used to put this information out.

the government doesn't pick the category. The winds do - there's a whole range and since there are measurements for things like wind and rain I don't think they can really lie about it.

I suppose that depends on where you were at. But what reason would the govt. have to lie about the size of a hurricane???It was awesome wasn't it?
