Actually the key is to relax. You have to find a comfortable position that does not require effort to hold. Stay relaxed and breathe slowly and calmly.

The living statue is a classic pantomime exercise. What it takes to do it well:

Learning to stand very still.

Controlling your breathing.

If you are a statue it would mean you look good but do nothing.
