Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa, the Three Colors Trilogy and the Decalogue by Kristof Kieszlowski.
Why- go and see them, and you will know. They transcend the medium of film.
Seven Samurai is one of the most well-acted, well -directed, well-filmed movies of all time. If you asked major directors to name their ten favorites, probably all of them would include it.
The same is likely true for the Three Colors Trilogy and the Decalogue series of films. These are GREAT movies, works of high art, that transcend time and the medium to make an evening of movie magic.

Fiddler On The Roof, hands down!

Because Tevye was so much like my own Dad....and his troubles and concerns were so much like my own family's.
And the songs are great and memorable and you sing them forever. And it's just so darned funny! The songs, the dialogue...I never grow tired of that movie.

I saw it in the theater when it first came out in 1971. And I watch it on DVD whenever I get the chance.

I've heard the soundtrack from the Broadway play in which Zero Mostel played Tevye....I never saw the play, but I think Topel (actor in the movie) was a much better Tevye than Zero Mostel.

I completely adored Braveheart. Mel Gibson gave a very moving and inspirational performance. I wanted to grab a sword and go fight the British.

Ferris Beuller's Day Off.
It's funny, but it's not completely pointless.
And it's addicting. I could watch it over and over again.
