why is it that a woman has the right to do what she wants to her body when it concerns abortion, but when she want a tubal to PREVENT pregnancy she no longer has the freedome to do what she wants to her body, unless she already has 2 kids??????is it just me, or does this make you think they would rather you kill a baby than make the wrong choice to steralize yourself?!

but they dont make you wait 30 days to get an abortion!that is a big decision too! only your choosing for someone else as well.
i have 4 kids, my sister is the one who does not want children, she is a virgin, getting married soon, shes researching birth control and we realised this point today.

The main reason is that many women change their mind when they hit their 30s. My sister-in-law was going to have a tubal ligation shortly after marriage but her doctor refused. She said she never wanted kids. Guess what? At 32, she decided she did want kids! She was so happy at that point that her doctor would not perform the surgery.

The surgery is not easy to reverse and the reversal is not always successful so many doctors will not do it before the age of 30 or 35. I understand your sister's unhappiness over this but she may be happy about it in a few years.

Now she does have the option of going to doctor after doctor to see if she can find someone who will do it. It won't be easy but I would imagine there is someone out there willing to perform the surgery. Be aware, that at her young age, her husband to be might be asked to sign the consent as well verifying that he agrees with the decision.

Well, they can't make you wait 30 days to get an abortion because by that time it'll probably be too late. As for making you wait 30 days to get your tubes tied, aren't you glad they don't just go "alrighty! Sounds great! Let's get you in there right now and tie you up!" I mean it makes total sense to me. It doesn't seem like they're taking away your right to do what you want with your body, they're just giving you some time to really make sure it's what you want to do. Is your virgin, soon to be married, sister sure she wants her tubes tied? What does her soon to be husband think? There are so many other options for birth control. I just think this is a little drastic, she might not want children now, but what about in 5 years from now? There is the IUD which is long term, there's the injection for people who can't do the day to day pill thing, the patch, just condoms and contraceptive gel works great. But you are right, it is her decision, and I wish her the best of luck in making it.

its true some women change their mind and even though an abortion can be traumatic, imagine never being able to have kids, and knowing that you did it to yourself, for the doctor I think they are covering themselves(not a bad idea) a women can always claim she's not the doctor and that her doctor shouldn't have let her.
