We couldn't afford it. It would take years and years to rebuild the infrastructure, educate, and assimilate. Canada would be easier if they'd do away with many crippling handouts.

Well, most people in this country wouldn't approve....But that doesn't matter if our govt. sees fit to do so.
The problem would be that Mexico is a third world country. How do you raise their standard of living without lowering ours? There is many more poor people over there and who would help them? We already pay very high taxes and the middle class would foot the bill. I think it sounds great in theory, but in practice that would be another matter....
Also the language would be a big barrier....Most people over there would find it hard to speak English, most don't have a proper education, and without knowing English they would never progress...I think the govt is heading for an open border policy with Mexico and Canada....So it may happen, I just want to know how they will implement it and who would be the ones to suffer the fall out, the poor no doubt...

Mexico has its own government. in the unlikely event that they are willing to relinquish control, the US Congress would have to annex Mexico. both events are highly unlikely, the latter more so than the former. why would we take Mexico? with all its weak infrastructure, poverty, gangs and violent crime, etc, its useless. we cant farm it. (we pay our farmers to grow less, so farming and food obviously isn't an issue) plus, if Mexico becomes a state, whats to stop the immigrants from other Latin American countries? if anything, we would make it easier for them to get in the US, seeing as our boarder is now thousands of miles closer than it was previously.
simply put, in the unlikely event Mexico's government gives up power, the US Congress will not annex Mexico as a state because it would just cost us more money than its worth.

Mexico is not that economically stable, A and B, I don't think they have an interest in becoming a state and C, if there is a 51st state then I think Washington DC and Puerto Rico will be fighting for the honor....

Stupid question on your part, my family and I, live just across the border to Nuevo Laredo, MX. and we were born and raised here in Texas. I can tell you first hand that Mexico does not have any control over the murders that are happening in their country it seems like the drug lords are the once that control MX. Do we want to get all that garbage dumped on the U.S. and then we will have to be the one's to correct their mistake? absoutely, not! Mexico, cannot control it's people so why should we even consider to make them the 51st state, even the thought of it makes me nauseous.

You do understand that Mexico is already produced from states of its personal? 31 states to be good. soaking up Mexico into u.s. may value better than the tax sales it may herald. even as admitting Mexico as a unmarried state can provide it 2 Senators, it may also provide it about 25% of the living house of Representatives. no matter if it truly is admitted as separate states, that ought to upload sixty 2 Senators or about 38% of the Senate. i do not imagine this can be an effective concept.

I think you'd have to ask Mexico about that! Mexico is a proud country with a long heritage and vibrant culture. They are also very socialist. I don't think they'd care to much to be raw capitalists like us, or to kowtow to the gringos.
If they wanted it, you'd have to be prepared for 20 to 50 years of a down economy as we absorbed them. Remember then Germany reunited? It's taken them 20 years to re-absorb Eastern Germany, and they are Germans culturally too!

I've heard reports and rumors that Canada, Mexico, and the USA are in negotiations to form an American Union similar to the European Union. It could strengthen all three nations and illiminate immigration problems.

We can't afford that much welfare, food stamps, and everything else it would take. I'd rathar make Canada part of the United States. They know what they are doing and wouldn't destroy our country's economy they would probably improve it.
