The best analogy I can make is that it's like having a Charlie Horse (the old muscle contractions you sometimes get in your legs). If you've ever suffered one of them, it's like that, only it's in the whole abdomen area and it lasts a lot longer than the average Charlie Horse.

I had natural childbirth 4 times. It feels nothing like menstral cramps. It is a dull ache that comes and goes, like the pain in your jaw if you go to the dentist and hold your mouth open wide for a long time. I used Bradley method which minimizes the pain and helps prevent cramps. I did not cramp with labor. On a scale of 1-10 most of labor was a 5 or 6. I have had hunger pains that were worse. Crowning hurts, but it only lasts for a couple of minutes. Pushing contractions don't hurt.

I have four children. Ages 17, 13, 13, and 5. Women's menstrual cramps feel like someone has a rope tied to her insides and is pulling down hard on them. And, of course, low back pain and leg cramps. Labor and childbirth, for me, felt like all these things intesified by at least 100 times. When I had my twins, I started out with an epidural, but it had worn off when I had dilated to the point where they won't give you another dose. I know I felt every bit of it. With my youngest, I went all the way without it. Much to my family's despair. They kept begging me to medicate, because it was killing them to watch me suffer through it. My oldest's labor lasted 56 hours, my twins, 25 hours, and my youngest 18 hours.

Hope this gives you the insight you seek.

The best way for me to explain the pain of giving child birth.
is.
Imagine crapping a WATERMELLON!.
You vigina stretches open to push the babys head then shoulders out. and yes you can/do RIP.
BUT, the good thing is.
Childbirth pain, is the ONLY PAIN, that goes away INSTANTLY after the baby is born.

Well I had back labor. During active labor it felt like intense intestinal cramps, I had pain in my butt and kinda felt like I was taking a really big poo. While he was crowning the perineum and labia burned and it just felt like it was being stretched

The first two answers were good descriptions, but they left out one thing: when the baby is finally delivered, it feels like the most incredible orgasm on the planet!!!
