When i was about 6-10 years old I loved shows and movies about space. In fact they inspired me to create a story that has spanned my life since.
It is So long (all in my head) that if i wrote it in one book it would be about 100 miles long in heighth.
My question is: Is it a good idea to write something that parts came out of other things. One of my enemy ships was an exact replica of somethiong off of Star Blazers.

My story line dealt with Earth in trouble with natural resources, were exp-loring the solar system (it would have originaly started about now)
And an alien race appears in huge war ships promising us help. But its all lies and a attempted assasination on their leader throws us into a war we cant win. Soon Humanity is on the run (whats left of it) and deep in space we gain allies and fight back.

For most of the years thats all it was.. constant war between two universes. What i mean, is that the enemy litteraly came from another universe. They ccould open doors

in our universe and attack.
Then about 10 years ago i started on what was originally ending this story.
Then when that story ended i came up with a sequel where the bible came to life. Heaven and Hell. Heaven was a planet where good and eveil first split (the two universes) and Hell is a Emporer who is trying to rule the universes but untill this point has used his armies of evil to do his work.

Of course. The Earth's Children series has taken the author many years of reasearch to write. The books came out in 1980,1982,1985,1990 and 2002. The 6th in the series is still not complete. It may take you a long time to write, but as long as it doesn't take that long to read, someone will read your book. Good luck with your writing and never give it up!

They would if they were interesting. However, much of what you've suggested has already been done. For example, on Star Trek: The Next Generation, there was an episode in which Lt. Tasha Yar was killed and several crewmembers held hostage by a living tar pit that was made up of the evil thoughts of another species that they had casted off before leaving to settle on another planet...sounds a little like your Heaven and Hell. Sci-fi and space books are interesting, but make sure there's original material between the "homages" of other shows.

If it is entertaining people will read it though probably not as one book. Stephen King wrote the Dark Tower series between 1976 (approx) and 2005 which spanned nearly thirty years and 7 books. If it is good you might get it published as a serial as the Star Wars series are published as smaller novels.

Your book idea does sound great. SciFi fans would eat it up.

However, I'd avoid taking ideas from other authors. Maybe you could rethink your plot and story details that come from other sources- you're clearly creative, so make up something different. For the ship, maybe change it's shape, coloring, engine, etc. It's SciFi- you can makeup facts and equipment and it'll be believable.
