I live in DC, was wondering where some good beaches are in Maryland and/or Virginia. Preferrably not a tourist trap like Virginia beach, but somewhere maybe off the beaten path, but still nice anyone have any suggestions??

I love the off-the-beaten-path beaches, and when I lived back east, I never really cared for the tourist traps like Ocean City's.

You might want to check out Assateague or Chincoteague (especially during the pony runs). Rehoboth is nice, too, but can be a bit congested. There's Deep Creek Lake, too, if you feel like venturing into the mountains of Western Maryland.

Another suggestion would be to call your local Sierra Club chapter ;)

You'll have to drive south to North Carolina. Atlantic Beach area is a lot of fun.

I don't know any in those states but if you make it to Florida
St. Pete Beach is great! I go there every year

I know to tell you NOT to go to Virginia Beach.

Boring, restrictions, small, crowded...
knock that one off your list.
