Real bad. There is a strong risk the baby will not survive. Even if it does, there is a high risk of developmental problems, mental retardation, disability. Babies do better if they are much closer to full-term.

I went into labor at 29 weeks and my son came very close to dying, but he will be 2 next month and no signs of developmental delays, however a lot of preemies may have some conditions such as asthma, eye and hearing problems, respitory ailments such as RSV during the cold and flu season. My son was lucky that he was born in a hospital that was very close to a Children's Hospital and he got the best, and latest medical care for preemies. I jsut read the answer below and $500,000 for 1 baby is absured. My son was almost 3 months early and his bill was high, but still half of that. It was $249,000, but in the state of Wash is a child is in the hospital for more than 30 days the state picks up the rest of what insurance doesn't pay, or if you don't have insurance they pick up the whole bill.

Ideally, it's best for a baby to be born full-term, but sometimes a baby is born early. The main thing is to make sure the mother and newborn have the proper care during and after the delivery. It's a good idea to choose a hospital that has experience in delivering and caring for premature babies. Most hospitals have an "ISCU" (Infant Special Care Unit) where the baby will stay until he is mature enough to go home with the parents.

It is not good to go into labor early. If you do, you need to go immediately to the emergency room! It is extremely important. Being born too early can be harmful to your child and can cause permanent harm. You should talk to your Dr. or child birth teacher. I hope you are taking birthing classes, they are very helpful. You learn a lot of stuff, not just about giving birth but about what to expect and what to watch out for.

Yes, that is a bad thing. If you are starting to have contractions in your 7th month, you should go to an Emergency Room RIGHT NOW. They can give you some meds to try to stop it, and your baby would be much healthier born at full term.
If you are at all concerned about the cost, premature births are unbelievably expensive. $500,000 medical bills are not unheard of for a baby that is kept in a neonatal ICU for two months.

it depends...if there isn't anything wrong with the baby it's not such a bad thing...or there might be something wrong.
Most boys their lungs develope slower so it would be bad, but not all the time my son was 6 weeks early and his lungs and everything else was perfectly fine.
sometimes if there is something wrong and the mothers life is at risk the doctors will deliver the baby early and hope for the best.
but you shouldn't worry about anything, you'll be fine and as long as you trust your doctor and the facility your baby will be fine as well. hope all is well....

It's not a good thing, but with medical technology these days the chances for the baby's surivival are relatively good.
