Leg strenght power lifting. It all comes from the legs Dude!!

There are three main things you must do.

1) Strengthen your core while maintaining flexibility. I dont care how fast your bat speed is if the core muscular structure of your body is weak, you're going to be Juan Pierre. Do resistance training on your core abdominal, obliques and back muscles. You can call a sports medicine clinic or look online for some good excercises.

2) You must use proper mechanics in the swing. Swing on a slightly downward path, which will impart backspin on a properly struck ball.

3) Strengthen your legs and hips and learn to use them properly in the swing. Watch Albert Pujols sometime; his hips go from stationary to completely through the swing almost instantaneously. Lightning fast. For this, I would suggest doing plyometric exercises, walking up very steep hills, and sprinting stairs.

But more than anything in the baseball swing, please teach yourself a swing that you understand and that you can quickly identify and adjust any problems or malfunctions that might arise quickly.

You must learn to turn into the pitch. Hips are the key, just like in golf. And, wrists. Upper body strength depends on lower body for launch. Lifting to get strong, not big.
