i personally don't think it causes their behavior, but i do think it has a deep impact on it. especially when left on too long. the biggest influence is who the child is around most often. they learn by example. children are like sponges. they absorb everything they see and hear, and when they are told to do something, they are going to do it... not how they are told to, but how they have seen it done. if children are brought up in homes that the parents don't care what they watch on tv, or look at/do on the internet, then yes, it can have serious repercussions on their behavior. if they watch violent shows, they are going to act more violently towards the people they interact with. in the same turn, if they watch wholesome shows, with good morals, they can have positive influences also. i'm not saying that sitting your four year old down to 4 hours of Andy Griffith and 6 hours of Veggie Tales a day is the best way to teach them morals. everything in moderation. but they're also not going to learn to take guns to school and shoot up their classmates if you're letting them watch a little bit of the right kind of programming. then as parents, we need to be discussing what we've seen together. actively taking part in our kids lives is the best way to influence our children's behavior. that way we have no one to blame but ourselves.

Well it plays a part, however the main influence in a child's life should be their parents. Unfortunately, many overworked and tired parents use the television as a babysitter and don't supervise their kids on the computer........thus, so many young kids on this site.
Statistics have proven that television effects childrens' behavior.
One university put a group of children in a room, had them watch a certain tv show, and then had them play together afterwards to see if they acted in violent ways.
The two most violent shows..................where children began fighting, arguing, and hurting each other were:
Power Rangers
and this is kind of surprising
Americas Funniest Home Videos

No bad or lack of parenting. I understand some kids are a handfull but step up to the plate and lay down guidelines, spend time with the kids, and teach them what is right and wrong by example. Don't blame internet and television on a child's behaviour they would not have access to these things if it weren't for parents.

if you think deeply and seriously about your own upbringing and behavior, you may understand what 'causes' us to behave certain ways.
as for me (i'm 68), behavior is almost always caused by parents and/or other close/influencial folks when we are very young and vulnerable. a child may have certain genetic/neurological problems (ADHD) that can determine much of their behavior but parenting and early influences takes the lead, IMO.

it is an influence but my grandmother told me that it's the scolding that influences them most. if we (kids) do something wrong, parents have 2 options: 1) yell at them and tell them that they are stupid or something like that OR 2) talk about it normally. the 1st option would make us (kids) be that person parents accuse us to be.
