The intelligence of trhe average american is decreasing I think because the way of life is less and less demanding (brain wise). Sure you've got school. But have you seen the test papers? They're getting easier because people are getting lazier. People have invented machines like computers that require you to click a button and get all the information you would normally need to research and think about. People are just required to think less and less in today's world. I can't think of the results further than someone needs to wake up soon and change the way american's live. The wolrd is becoming more westernised so if the Amiericans change the world will gradually change as well. But I'm not sure they'll follow America.

No one can say *for certain* why the average intelligence of Americans is decreasing. There are theories, but none of them have been proved. The theory I favor is the one that looks to history for a parallel; Rome's citizen's also experienced a decline in intelligence.

This seems to have been because of lead in their food and drinking water from lead cooking utensils and pipes. At the time, Romans didn't understand what lead could do to them. There are so many chemicals in our food, how can we ever hope to understand what they all may do, especially in combination. (Approved food additives are not ever tested in combination with each other.)

Whatever the reason, the end result is easy to figure out. Look at what happened to Rome.

Students are not getting the education they need due to parents not being home to help help and see that they do their studies. Students are passed from one grade to the next without understanding what they are doing. They can never catch up. If you can't do the work you should not be passed on to the next higher class where you will just fall further behind. I think that in the future there will be many very bright people and very many slow people with only a few people at what we now call average. Soon after that being very bright will be the norm and the very slow will be classified as what we call now mentally challenged (mentally retarded). The people in the middle will then be considered as being slow being able to obtain only menial jobs. This can be avoided by not allowing students to go to the next grade without at least a c- average. Even if it takes them until they are in their 20's it will be worth the trouble and expense in the long run.

I'm not sure the intelligence of the average American is really decreasing, more like the current leader of the lemmings is a moron. They'll eventually either destroy themselves, and hopefully not take the rest of us down with them, or snap out of it and elect a Democrat.

I don't think the intelligence is decreasing. I think the problems are 1) there is no competition in the schools, and 2) politics ruins everything.

American education has "dumbed down" our children for decades now, and we are surpassed in knowledge by the Chinese, Japanese, Pakistanis, Indians, etc.

Its the result of what Clinton called 'leveling the playing field'. The end result will be an America that is a third world slum.

Not sure where you're getting your information, but the average IQ is actually higher now in the US than 30 years ago. Hopefully it will continue to climb and keep the US right near the top of the heap.

i think because in parts of th u.s there are segregation in the u.s which separates the lower class from middle and upper class.which leaves the lower class with the worse communities which have violence, drugs, street gangs etc.and that leaves the youths of those communities to be misled and thats how there are more drop outs and less intelligence.
