ANd what point is that? I am guessing new high memory cards are only beneficial for 3D games past 16mb maybe but would it help Photoshop or any other applications excluding 3D ones at all? I'm ust trying to understand what is useful to upgrade to.Thanks.

A high-end graphic card will mostly will be useful in games and stuff. Photoshop and other applications should be okay with almost any graphics card.

Any graphics card is better than onboard graphics. Using a slotted graphics card will free up some of your system ram (unless you get a turbocache/ Hyper memory card as these cards also use up system ram).

The next version of windows (Vista) will need a 128 MB directx 9 3D card (also Windows Driver Display Model compatible) or better(non better yet) if you want to run theAero Express and Aero glass interphase (only available in Home Premium and upwards version of vista).

I am not expert so i found a link explaining how the graphics accelorator works. After reading it I would say that the operating system itself will benifit from a better graphics card, but it not be noticable to the human eye.

It depends. If you are upgrading to a graphics card from an integrated video chip, then yes your total computer performance will be much higher. A new card will also help with video editing and related applications. But probably not with photo shop. If you are looking for economy rather than performance stay with an AGP interface and an older version graphics card.

if you get a graphic card with a lot of memory it benefits your system because the graphic card has its own memory thus freeing more memory for the pc or applications to run. the more memory the better, if you already have lots of ram then you wouldn't have to get card so expensive unless you do special applications or games.

hey, surely using a separate graphics card for display makes additional availability of memory for system thus your machine will be more comfortable to run.
this is applicable not only to display card but for all the additional cards if one wish to use .
thanks :)
