Either the pin is broke or linkage is out of ajustment 65 ImpalaSS that is a sweet car My brother used to have one Huis had a 327 and 4 speed

check the linkage there is rubber bushings on some. if it shifs good then the parking pin is having problems engaging take it to a shop because it is all under the valve body and those are very sinsative on how they go back in.

the vehicle is over 40 years old - some thing's gotta supply. do not you recognize that that's a classic, and can be thoroughly checked and maintained by ability of an excellent mechanic? Sounds to me like the transmission is whipped.

Two possibilities... the parking pin or the detent in the linkage.

we have a 60 Impala, that had the same problem, it was the transmission

Maybe the transmission cable needs adjusting.

Gear problem.Mine wouldn't get out of Park, them it got stuck in Reverse..I gave up on mine andgot another car, it was a problem in the gear box they told me.,. you can check it out.. Good Luck with it....

well park is basically just a pin. maybe it is getting wore out or sheered off.
