Either the parking pawl in the tranny is broke off or your trans linkage is bent or misadjusted.

Transmission linkage needs adjustment.. any shade tree mechanic should be able to do that job in 2 to 3 hours..

The car is over forty years old - something's gotta give. Don't you know that it is a classic, and should be thoroughly checked and maintained by a top mechanic? Sounds to me like the transmission is whipped.

examine the linkage there is rubber bushings on some. if it shifs good then the parking pin is having problems enticing take it to a shop because of the fact this is all decrease than the valve physique and those are very sinsative on how they circulate back in.

adjust your linkage, less than a 5 min. job. I just had to do the same with mine

Probably a strip gear in your transmission.
