I was wondering how many kids we could feed for the money Bono spent on the eyewear he wears in the video posted on Yahoo this evening lecturing us about world poverty and what we need to do our governments need to do to end this problem?

On a similar note, do you think he flew comercial to Africa or Private jet? Seems like an awful waste if he flew anything less than econo class. Could someone figure out the difference of the cost of a private jet to Africa vs. a ticket on say an Econo ticket on British airways. I think we could buy at least one mosquito net for the difference.

BTW, anyone catch which Motel 6 Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are staying at on their latest trip to Africa? I heard a nasty rumor that after they toured the poverty striken areas of Africa they ran of to the nicest resort on the continent and dropped 10K a night. Surely this was misreported when they are telling me I need to send in the money I was going to use for a CD.

HYPOCRICY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny how this becomes about me. What have I done? Don't be so jealous. None of you know the first thing about me or what I have or have not done.

This is not about me, its about the pervasive attitude amonst celebrities and Libs to cast guilt upon our excesses while flaunting theirs. They are so detached from reality they can't even see the irony in wearing what I believe to be $400 sun glasses and lord knows what designer shirt, pants and shoes asking how we end the worlds poverty.

I will now tell you what I have decided to do as my part. This weekend or first of next week I am going to auction off my sunglasses, every pair I own. All the proceeds from that sell(minus aution fees) will go to some charity working towards poverty, hunger, or aids relief in Africa. Will Bono do the same??? Dont believe me, check Ebay this time next week and you will be able to find my auction.

The thing is that when you make 40 million dollars a year, spending $10,000 on a room is like spending $40 a night at Motel 6 for the average income. Don't be jealous because you can't jet set around the world and still have money left over to donate to charity. When it comes down to it, they still do more for needy kids than you do so until your pockets get a little deeper and you start reaching in them, I would suggest not bashing the people that do.

It's called a GLOBAL COMMUNITY people! Helping other countries is the only thing we do to dispell the myth that we are fat, lazy, and greedy. And what makes you think that only helping the problems in the USA gets rid of the problem? At least they are doing something!

From the look of those shades I'd say they cost conservatively about $200 Canadian. The local homeless mission advertises during their fund-raising campaign that they can feed a person for $1.29 per day. Sooooooo, Bono could feed 155 poor people for one full day where I live and still have a nickle left over to buy himself a nice piece of bubble gum from one of those charity candy machines.

Now Brangelina on the other hand would be able to help the homeless mission feed 21 people for an entire year for the cost just one night of their stay in Africa.

Remember people...we're the ones who feed the machine...every cd or movie ticket or video game you buy makes a few rich people richer and a whole lot of poor people even poorer as they work to produce that schlock and never manage to claw their way up to middle-class..

Parts of Africa are a mess right now and what's going on is horrible. However, I prefer to spend my money helping people right here at home. Clean up the cities, help people get jobs, support your local food panrty. Every night so many AfricanAmericans are killed on the streets. It just breaks my heart and I don't even know them. I don't have all the answers but there are a lot of people in my area who need help. Our government gives aid to many countries. A lot of it is mis-spent.
We need accountability.

So it's only poor people who can work toward ending poverty?

These people have the clout and the attention. We wouldn't even be talking about world poverty if Fred from down the street was trying to bring the same things to our attention.

Also, these guys are giving to charities. They're just not bragging about it. How's about if you give it a try?

I don't think people should be ashamed of the way they live their life because they worked their asses off doing their job. Bono and other people work very hard for what they have. He gives a lot to the people and I what have YOU DONE for the world, have you lent your voice for a cause or even donated 5 or 10 dollars?

Yes, but most of society feeds this machine.....feeds their egos, feeds their pocket books. Boycott celebrities!
It will never happen. They will worship them and think they are doing good for mankind. I'm sure they are, but have they had to live a humble life as many poverty stricken and impoverished people have? No.
Maybe if they took it down a notch and at least pretended to stay at a Motel Six or wear Walmart sunglasses the few of us who aren't blind might have more appreciation for what they are doing.
Are they doing it to help or to make themselves look better? Which one do you think it is?

Good point!

And what else do you expect from Bono, or Brad, or Angelina, or all the other millionaires the entertainment industry has made? To be famous and rich are the only reasons they went into show biz. Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.
