They're proud of it. They think they really rocked the boat back in the 60s and 70s, so they feel like sharing that fact. It's pretty much the same as a WWII or Vietnam veteran always telling people they were soldiers.

Possibly because hippies were rebels. They shook things up politically more than any other group of young people. They were unpopular with main stream America and could be identified by their appearance as troublemakers. My guess is that old hippies might still be proud to have stood up to the status quo, and aren’t afraid to let you to know it.

Perhaps because they want you to get a glimpse that even the idea of questioning authority was a really radical thing. Everyone did thing because "We've always done it this way." Thinking for oneself was voiced but not expected and definitely not accepted. The Hippies actually said "I'm going to find out for myself what is true." Maybe they want you to think of them as someone who had enough independence to start walking to their own drum. Nowdays that doesn't seem like much of an achievement. But believe me, it was truly radical and brazen in the 60's.

My parents were hippies, and they did not do drugs. They love their generation. Because of what their generation went through, they taught us how to stand up for what we believe in, look for good things in people, and be yourself, and its ok to be unique and have your own style. By the way my hippy parents are intelligent, and both have their own Harley-Davidsons, and they are not burn outs!!

Actually "REAL HIPPIES" don't. Wanna be's say they were cause the real hippies have long since died out and the "WUZZIE"S" are trying to take our place because they think it will make them look cool.
