If you are in the U.S. and referring to Post Office shipping.. It is flat price no matter how much weight is in the package or where it goes (lower 48)

For example... you load a box with something small but it weighs 20 pounds. Instead of paying shipping on 20 pounds, you get a flate rate shipping box and only pay around $7-8 (can't remember the exact cost at the moment)
It is much cheaper but only if the item is heavy. It wouldn't be worth it to send a 1 pound item this way.

Its really just the postal service saying that they could send it sooner for an insane amount of money but if you don't want that then you can use the flat shipping rate and we will bring it to you when we feel like it.
