Would you lie in order to preserve you and your siginicant other's happiness, including your relationship?
Or, would you tell the truth for the sake of being honest, knowing that your relationship with your siginicant other would more than likely end?

I'm not really alluding to anything specific, I'm really just interested in what people would do under what circumstances when it comes to a lie in a relationship.

I guess it would depend on HOW BAD the lie was and are you going to be able to keep it a secret forever or will you eventually tell the other person? If you think you will end up telling them later on down the road probably better to do it NOW and get it over with it will hurt alot less now than later... But if its something that will seriously affect your relationship and the other person is better off now knowing and you are saving them from undue hurt then keep it a secret BUT make sure it stays in the secret vault FOREVER!!!

if the other is 'significant' (meaning valued and cherrished above all) why would you lie to them - especially when there's a good chance that the truth might come out some day? if there really is no commitment to mutual honesty, go ahead and lie - it'll just be another dishonest item to add to an ever growing sack of lies.
as for me, i'd diplomatically tell my beloved and trusted significant other the truth and let the chips fall where they will. if the significant other finds the truth to horrible to deal with, they will have to move on to find another significant other. maybe there will come a time when significant others will be honest and truthful which will be very SIGNIFICANT in my opinion.

If you're not meant for each other, whether you lie or tell the truth, your relationship will likely to end. So better be honest to save the relationship than saying lies.

this could be a real dilemma, first, what's the lie, I'm thinking it would be about cheating, to lie u still, run the risk of being discovered, maybe not right now, but u still will be, so my advice is don't lie, it doesn't help the situation anyway, so if you loved someone u shouldn't have done something that u shouldn't, right?
so i opt for the truth,

Do you plan to commit the lie again? Would it help things by being honest? Is the other person going to find out? If you can honestly answer No to all of them, keep it with you and learn from your mistake.

it all depends you can lie on the little things like do you like this shrit and you think that is ugly but you tell him that is nice just to fell good about himself. But when I comes to the big things is better to tell the truth or else one day you might just blow up and things can get way out of hand.

If you lie it only gets you in more trouble. Tell the truth. My ex left me after 2 1/2 years to go back to her ex. husband for her own reasons. Meanwhile, I was so upset and found out week later she was prego. 6 months prego. Not mine. Maybe she left me for that! I will never know but, what she told me she wanted best for her 5yr. old son. My ex. lied out of her ex. husbands life to be with me and lied her way out ours. I believe she thinks I believed all her stories and she would never get caught. NOT, words get around.

The trick isn't in lying or telling the truth. The trick is in living so that you never HAVE to lie to your significant other.
