Absolutely...

Just watch the ads at your local retailers each Sunday...
There have been many nice units on sale at mass merchant retailers in the $500 or less category...

Many Acer, Toshiba, etc. with decent ram, hd, and CPU have been available each week on sale as low as $400 from original $700 pricepoint!

You just have to be a careful, patient shopper and "pounce" on the good sales when they pop up!

GOOD LUCK!

Best i can recommend is u get hold of an extra 100

Dell has a decent line of Inspirons, selling for 699
The E1505 & E1405 are both priced 699 presently
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=E1405S1&s=dhs

features a centrino solo core processor @ 1.83 MHz
512 MB RAM, 60 GB SATA hard disk & combo drive

good enough for most applications, except high end gaming
has external console for playback and os xp win media centre 2005 would be great instead of win xp home, but u gotta add 29

i feel it's better than buying somethin cheaper or 2nd hand
it's well worth the money !

Dude, i cant help you but be careful when buying from ebay or online . dont use wiretransfers or westernunion. Scams Scams Scams. Hope you find a good one. check dell for cheap ones, though no good quality. Or Hewlett-Packerd(hp) for a decent media laptop and a great looking laptop. Apple is a little expensive but if your willing to save up a little more they have GREAT laptops with built in webcam and glossy screens. P.S Apple laptops last about 3 times longer than windows based computers- no viruses.
