There's an old saying "God created man in his own image and likeness and then man returned the favor." I believe we are indeed created in the image and likeness of the father, and this "material image" that we adopt as our self is not our true reality, which is pure consciousness, pure potentiality as Deepak likes to call it.

God is a creation of man's mind, he serves as a means for man to explain the unexplained. if you are religious, anytime you can't explain a certain thing you will say it is God's doing. i believ though that God was created as a means to fulfill man's need for knowledge, allowing the unexplained to be explained.
