okay neddie, stop it with the spinning. Democrats are also for abortion, affirmative action, and appeasing people to keep gas cheap.
conservatives are the ones who are what you call old-fashioned. cutting down on profanity in the media, not giving birth control to teens, keeping God in the pledge of allegiance. stuff like that. the also believe in a strong military to keep our country safe. and they're all about lower taxes.
liberals are the progressives, as in they always support all the ways for society to change. they support gay marriage, they fight censorship, they push for separation of church and state. they vote diplomacy over military. they wish to tax the rich to pay for charitiable government programs.
Democrats are usually liberal. Republicans are usually conservative.
the only people left supporting Bush are ultra-conservatives. I am a staunch conservative myself, and a Republican, but I do not like Bush.
good about Democrats: minimum wage, labor laws, environmental issues.
bad about Democrats: cutting military funding, too nice to illegal immigrants, and historically they have usually been wrong. (they were on the wrong side of slavery, the Civil Rights movement, treatment of the Indians, and the Soviet Union)
good about Republicans: lower taxes, moral fiber in government, going after terrorists.
bad about Republicans: weak on the environment, don't support art education, often don't handle things swiftly (example the war in Iraq)

Well, I find this a loaded question. As I have known many people on both sides of politics, there is no clear cut answer as Neddie would have you believe. Not all conservatives are Bush supporters and not all liberals are against the war. These are great "headlines" news papers/media use to get you to buy their paper or watch their show. People I believe fall more in the middle of politics but may agree more with one side than the other.
I have found that when you are younger you are idealistic and want to save the world, most seem to be either Democrat or Independent. However as you get older in your mid 30's and up, you begin to realize that you are not going to save the world, you get a better perspective on life, and get more conservative in your views. I think at this point most people are on the political teeter-totter. Baby Boomers are the group that are hardest for me to classify. It seems that the Boomers that went through the hippie stages are mostly Democrat. They seem to still believe that they can save the world. Of course, these are very sweeping generalizations of what I have observed over my life time so far. And I don't think it is a bad thing to start out wanting to save the world. I think it is noble. But, life should hit you at some point and you learn your lucky you can save your little corner of the earth.
