I have worked with new moms for 25 years and have seen it all- I will tell you that I can usually get some idea about the parents from what they name their child. Very young and/or insecure moms frequently try to be overly creative with the spelling of their child's name (Khymberleigh for Kimberly, Emmaleigh for Emily, etc.) I imagine these children going through life, constantly having to spell their names- to the annoyance of everyone, including themselves. Asher is nice. I like Seth, Nathan and Carl for boys, Carla, Janet and Audrey for girls. Asher, like these names, is not over-used right now- not too likely that your little one will be Asher #5 in his/her first grade class. (There were 4 "Steves" in my 4th grade class. Really. It must have been huge in the late 50's!) Look for a name that sounds solid and pleasant- interesting is OK as long as it's not so unusual that it makes people say, "what?" when the name is spoken.

I just had a baby girl named Delaney. I also liked the name Simona. I also think Ansley and Maya are cool girl names. For boys Asher is supposed to be a big name in the near future. I like Bennett for boys too.

No disrespect but I have yet to figure out why people name their children such odd names. Why exactly is this? What is wrong with names such as Steve, Adam, John, or Beth,Mindy, or Sally?
A name speaks volumes about one's self , first impression kind of thing, next someone will be naming their child toilet or something. .. Anyway, good luck with whatever name you choose, just remember it is your child that must look people in the face when she introduces herself as Anita Peter at a job interview years down the road...

You'll get a zillion responses to this...but I'll throw in my two cents...I love the name Sean for a boy...also Benjiman...as for girls...I had three and chose names I loved..and they do too..and their all grown up now. I chose Amelia Gray (Gray a family name) , Manie Faith (Manie after a wonderful woman I knew when I was a kid...Faith..that's my middle name...and Michael Rebecca...Michael because I love the name and it's my brothers name too ..Rebecca after my Grandma. Have fun with this.. My daughters all love their names..that's what counts. Good luck

I like "Asher" also-- I also like Creed, Caleb,Jean (with the french pronunciation-), Storm, Carson, Jonah, Bjorn---and I still like John.
For girl, Iike Alexis or Lexie, Olivia or Livvy, Cassandra (but not Cass or Cassie)--and even though it has been over done, I still like Miranda. Not to far out on a limb, I hope, I like the name "Caress".
