Why end poverty?

What's wrong with poverty? Why does it need to end? Without poverty would we know what a decent, successful living looks like? I see no moral dilemna here. I love poverty! It's a brutal frame of reference that helps me to realize what a great situation I really am in.
Giving money means satisfying empty bellies, and when these bellies are full, what's the next thing a human needs? Sex! That's right, sex. And then there's a good chance after that is performed another empty bellied creature is born. Thus, the perpetual cycle never ends as we give more money.

Leave poverty alone! Let it be free! Let it exist! Stop trying to end poverty. It's not a disease. It's the solution!

I think when they meant poverty they meant the starving kids in Africa whose grateful to eat once a week. Oh so you mean the people who can't afford to feed themselves or their families should continue to starve while all of us who are on the internet continue our ways? How can you say you love poverty you obviously have not went through a night wondering if you'll have enough to feed your family or even yourself. You selfish prick

I'd guess that very few people who will actually read this have experienced the type of poverty that Bono is rallying against, therefore it's really hard for us to comprehend. Being that as it is I had previously imagined that a person in my circumstance (not starving) had two options, a) Sit around feeling guilty b) do something about it. Which is a gigantic task, completely overwhelming, I liked this question for the sole reason that it gives us all a third option c) revel in the wondrousness of not being poor and starving and generally not give a rats ***.
Thanks for the shift in paradime, it's so freeing.
I think I might go deal crack to school children cuz 'what's wrong with that?' also I'm totally not going to recycle anymore because it's so eeeew

just to know what a great situation u r in , u want others to be poor. what a selfish thinking. u should have been poor. then u wouldn't have thought like this. yes, you leave poverty alone. u don't have to do anything if u don't want to. keep your feelings for yourself . it because of people like you there is still poverty in this world. u don't have right to tell others to stop ending poverty. hopefully u r not a politician. thank god for what he has given u & feel sorry for the people who are poor.actually they know how to survive in this world with little money they have which u r not able to do. in that respect they r in a better position than u.

I don't mind if some people have less than others, but real poverty is more than just not having money to buy a new TV. It's fine if some people can't afford the shoes they want, or the clothes they like, or to own a computer, but there are people there who can't feed their children, who can't feed themselves, who can't get the medicines they need, or a roof over their heads. These are the ones we have a moral imperative to help.

And yes, a part of the way to do that is to educate people about birth control and overpopulation, so that they won't have to reproduce more than the planet can support.

Try to live as not just poor, but in poverty, and you'll empathize with this horrible condition. My mother and father were starving children of Europe during WWII and they would get after us every time we were wasteful. They taught my brothers and my sister and I how to be frugal with water and food and electricity even in our throw away society. I feel less guilty for it and teach my children as well. I also have them visit their grandparents for more lessons. I have made a video of my father and mother for after they pass away. I plan to have it changed over to DVD. It's important for future generations to know that there are those who suffered and died to make America a healthier nation. We should acknowledge this and pray that we will never be in the same predicament as our anscestors.

Try being poor, undernourished, without home, warmth, safety-without everything you have now. Imagine being sick and never getting better, imagine dying young from lack of basic human needs. Try putting yourself in the shoes of people in poverty and then you will see why poverty is terrible-terrible it is monstrous!

Its not poverty that is the problem, its the system we have in place that rewards poverty instead of working to eliminate it.

Poverty is a good thing - it can be a great motivator and, if you overcome it, makes you REALLY appreciate stuff.

Life isn't fair, never will be.

You are talking like that, because you've obviously never tasted poverty yourself. When you do, then start asking that question!
