The usual answer is aardvark, but actually, most dictionaries list the alphabet letter of the particular section as the first "word", so A being the first section of the dictionary, a would be the first "word". However discounting these "words" as not real words and in any event rather trivial, the first word would be a as in the indefinite article.

I would say either the name of the dictionary, or the copyright information on the first few pages.... Most likely it is the name of someone like "Oxford", "Websters", "Collins", etc. whom the dictionary is named after.

Mine say's a (that's a letter) and aachen (that's a word), so it depends if u want a letter or a word
