If you get the right medication for your situation it will only make you a better person. I wish I would have taken antidepressants ten years ago. It was trial and error to find the right one but I am a better person for it. Your question about low tolerance is vague sorry can't help you with that part.

Some antidepressants supposedly help people with "social anxiety disorder," which is shyness and anxiety being in social situations. My doctor tried me on one of those for situational depression about four years ago, and it made me have two emotions: None, and angry. But at least I wasn't depressed! Another one, which can be also used to stop smoking (I don't), made me feel paranoid. I took it for five days only. The last one I took, my kids told me it made me act weird. So much for that one! Just be aware than sometimes the effects of these drugs can be unpredictable. I soon found out that I can't take any of them, and figured out how to manage my emotional ups & downs without medication.

Anti depressants do not change you as a person, you are and always will be you. Anti depressants work on the serotonin levels in your brain, thus mental illness usually being a brain chemistry malfunction. Anti depressants are not for everyone, and should never be taken without medical supervision. Taking them when they have not been prescribed for you can be extremely dangerous. For those who suffer from mental illness, antidepressants can be a large part in their rehabilitation.

I was depressed for a while and tried to take prescribed antidepressants. Although I was depressed, i made alot of people laugh and everyone thought I was happy. When I started the medication, people told me to stop cause I seemed depressed all the time. Go figure.

Antidepressants work for people with depression, nothing else. I've been taking antidepressants for many years and I can tell you that it doesn't interfere with the way you are. It actually puts you back to who you are after the depression lifts.

Antidepressant's are being handed out like candy, even to children. Anything that is screwing with your mind is going to change your attitude. I think they have a place but I think they are being abused. Evey one I know is on Antidepressant's or have been at sometime. Life is hard, lean to live with it.

People actually say I'm a better person now that I am medicated...everyone's body chemistry is different but with me and others I know it has been a life savor...I have a low tolarance for a lot of meds myself.

I don't think they're changed who I am. I think that my antidepressants have really helped to "take the edge off" of my depression.
