"How do people rationalize abortion?"
You honestly can't. The other day a co-worker found a picture of an aborted baby that was on an advertisement card and it was the most disturbing thing I have ever seen in my life. And I'm a 26 year old male. That one picture changed my entire outlook on this eternal societal taboo.....
And let me tell the women being snide on here. "Your body your choice". Yes, that is a plausible opinion but coming off how you are makes you sound selfish as hell. Sorry, but a whole lot of you on here need attitude adjustments.

Morally, I can't answer this. Morally, it's the feelings of the person honestly. Some people don't believe a potential human is yet a human, but some people think it is. That is a person-to-person issue.
Politically, the best answer I've seen is that the crime rate dropped drastically around eighteen years after Roe v. Wade. This is when many aborted babies, (and let's remember that the majority of abortions are received by single mothers in poverty, which is also where the majority of violent criminals come from), would have reached their criminal prime.
That's only one sociopolitical reason that justifies abortion, there are many more, but that is the best answer I can give.
If you're curious, I'm pro-choice, but abortion is definitely not something I would advise to a friend, nor would I want someone I was with to do it, (and before anyone asks, yes I've been in the situation where I've had to discuss it).

I am against abortion 99.9% of the time but there is a time when I feel it can be justified. You may completly disagree, but please read this with an open mind. A young girl was only fifteen and had been repeadedly raped by her father and was impregnated. The doctors knew that the baby would be born with FOP, a disease where ligaments are turned to bone and you become disfigured and paralized at a young age. The 15 year old was now an orphan as her dad was arrested, and she knew the chances of her baby being adopted were slim to none, and she had no relatives. Her pain and her baby's pain caused her to decide to have an abortion. Is it right, I don't know. Another girl only eleven was pregnant, her baby was to be born with a rare disease that would allow it to live for a few days at most, perhaps up to age five with a miracle, but with constance pain, however the 11 year old girl, innocen rape victim in the innocence of life, would possibly die in labor or delivery if not become increadibly ill perminently. I don't know if it is right, but I know I don't want to stand it there way. That being said 99.9% of the time it is a horrible decision and alternatives should be used.

How is it not right? Did you know that many wild animals naturally abort babies when there is a lack of habitat and loss of food supply, or unsuitable conditions to raise young.... Why should it be wrong for a human to decide (after an accidental pregnancy) to abort the fetus? I know that right now at this point in my life I would get an abortion if I accidentally got pregnant, because I dont have a stable job, or the money, resources or time to give a child a good life. So instead of bringing a child into the world when I cant take care of it, I would choose to stop the process before it became a baby that is what an abortion is. That is why you can only get it done in the early stages before the zygote becomes a fetus...If what you say about it being in its most innocent state is true then how do you rationalize eating chicken eggs? that is like aborting and eating a baby chicken, and is about the equvalent of a fertilized human embryo. (even though it is a chicken embryo) What about women who get raped do you think it would be fair to force them to have the child of thier abuser? and do you think they would really love the child and give it a good life...or secretly be reminded of the horrible experience that created the child every time they looked at it. Bottom line is when abortion is used as birthcontrol (instead of condoms etc) it is wrong but when it is used to prevent future suffering or hardship because of an accident there is nothing wrong with it. I have to honestly say that there are alot of people out there that chose to have children when they didnt even know who the father is have no money or job addicted to drugs and the children they have suffer for it.....They are the stupid selfish people that bring life into the world and dont take care of it, it is better to be responsible enough to know that you arent up to the task of bringing a child into the world and raising it properly....so that you make the right choice and fix the problem by getting an abortion and waiting until you are ready to devote the rest of your life to caring for a new life. I ask you ... How do you rationalize saying it is wrong to prevent future suffering of a child that cant be taken care of properly?

I think it is not so much how they rationalize it but why do they rationalize it. In my opinion, and I am the mother of a 41 year old daughter, there is never a good reason for the taking of an innocent life. The child did not ask to be conceived. That responsibility lays fully on the shoulders of the ones who conceived the child. Imagine if the ones who say abortion is okay, were aborted by their mothers. wouldn't have any opinion then, would they?

If you are saying people who thinks abortion needs to be legalized are unethical and everyone else who's on the other side are ethical then you are wrong.
If you are a mother can you bear to watch your children dying from hunger and disease because you were raped and weren't allowed to have an abortion and your family kicked you out with no money and no place to go?
If you are a mother that has had a good life, can you imagine the pain of removing your unborn child before it every took a breath?
Both sides have ethical people who are trying to make the other one see the horror of one side but they fail to notice that each side has their own consequences.
You can rationalize abortion the same way you can rationalize pro-life.

You know What, I find Your Policies extemely Sexist and Typical for a Right-Wing Conservative like Yourself. God, You must obviously be a Male. Don't judge a Woman for wanting to have a Mind of Her Own. Take Your Choavanist Views Somewhere Else, Kid. We don't need You, & niether do Our future Children. I think People like You shouldn't be allowed to Reproduce in the first place, when We know that Your Babies will grow up to be Narrow-Minded Pigs just like thier Mommies & Daddies. Our Bodies, Our Choice! How You like them Apples, Punk?!

it's not right... but I think the argument is mis-leading.. notice how people don't say they are "anti-life" No - they are pro-choice! Quite a difference in meaning (Took me years growing up to see the difference! Between - anti - abortion / pro -life and pro-choice the words 'pro' and 'anti' are what threw me as a youngster!.)
To me - what about the choice this baby has? Isn't that a valid person? What right do mothers have to terminate their child's life? It seems Pro baby's choice would be a better way of phrasing it!

It's not necessary to rationalize it, all you need are the facts.
1. Fetuses don't have the neurological capabilties to be fully thinking, feeling human beings. They are literally undeveloped.
2. Even if fetuses were full human beings, no human being has the right to invade and use another's body without the other person's consent. (Name any BORN human who has that right.)

For the simple-minded and those who wish to blind themselves to the truth, it is sad to say, but size matters.
If women were educated (or looked at a sonogram prior to their decision to abort) the result might be very different. The Dems are so fearful of women being educated about the consequence of their actions. There should be no wonder as to why that is.
